Maths Curriculum

The current National Curriculum for Mathematics came into force in September 2014.

To stretch our ambition for children's acheivment in mathematics and to support their learning we have invested in the Inspire Maths Scheme.  This scheme is based on the textbook used in 85% of Singapore schools and supports the achievement of pupils in Singapore to be amongst the very best in the world.  Inspire Maths does not follow exactly the progression of the National Curriculum, but it does meet all the objectives required (and more) by the end of each key stage.

Below are some sample pages from the text books which show how the calculation methods are taught in each year group.  By Year 4 pupils the aim is for pupils to be secure in all 4 calculation methods and the emphasis in Years 5 and 6 is on calculating with fractions and percentages etc.

Bar modelling is a method used to help children understand what maths is required when faced with word problems.  We have included a couple of pages here from the Year 2 book which introduce this concept.

Please talk to your child's class teacher if you would like to know more about what your child is learning in Maths.

Times Tables Practice

Our children are expected to know all their times tbales up to 12x12 by the end of Year 4.  Here are some links to sites to help you practice:
